We’re upgrading Mooncamp’s access management system to simplify permissions at scale. This guide covers what's changing, how it affects your current setup, and recommended next steps.
What's changing?
Old system: Individual goal permissions
Previously, every goal had individually managed permissions. While precise, this approach was cumbersome for larger teams and often led to inconsistencies.
New system: Teamspace permissions
- Goals now inherit permissions from their assigned team's "teamspace permissions".
- Team owners automatically receive full access to team goals, streamlining team-level administration.
Key Benefits:
- Automate visibility: Assign goals to teams to instantly grant appropriate permissions.
- Reduce admin overhead: Minimize manual permission adjustments across multiple goals.
- Adapt on the fly: When team members or roles change, goal permissions automatically reflect these updates.

Migration logic
During migration, we're ensuring minimal disruption:
- Default teamspace permissions
- Your existing
Default Access
settings (set in the settings area under Goals > Settings
) become the default permissions for your teamspaces.
- Team owners get
Full Access
; team members and all other workspace members follow your previous workspace-wide Default Access
settings.
- Automatic linking of goals with teams assigned
- Goals assigned to teams will automatically inherit the respective team’s new teamspace permissions.
Noteworthy:
- Private goals remain private
- Explicitly private goals remain private. We've created exceptions to preserve these privacy settings.
